Luminary studio space - Lewes

working for Luminary Studio in the heart of Lewes was an extensive and fun project. Luminary Studio specialises in colour forecasting, but the studio is home to so much more and a creative hub in Lewes. the client had a clear vision for her work-space, colours and textures being paramount, but with a focus on re-use and sustainability. nordesign was commissioned to execute many of the carpentry elements and installations.

some of these elements include; oak panelled walls with, window apertures, built in cabinets, which were seamlessly integrated in the vertically orientated panels. oak framed window reveals and multi-use window seats/ desks. extra length oak shelving and a number of oak detailing and storage cubbies. store rooms with floor-to-ceiling shelving nordesign also undertook a number of restoration jobs as well, such as external doors and a staircase that needed alterations. to push the project forward some structural timber work was undertaken including stud walls, one of which in a vaulted room.

the biggest job was perhaps to make a herringbone floor from reclaimed maple-wood factory floor. each piece had to be cut to size, checked, calibrated and of course stuck down before sanding and finishing could be completed. roughly 100 square metres were made and laid over two floors. the result was a light and stunningly beautiful floorcovering, full of character and history. painful for the hands and knees, but the result made it all worth it.
